"The Moody Legacy"

Read more about David Moody's new Book, "The Moody Legacy".

"The Moody Legacy" is an illustrated history, covering nearly 200 years of Moody heritage. Written and compiled by David Moody, the book contains hundreds of period photographs of Swanwick and the surrounding area - and photographs of yachts built at Swanwick and by other manufacturers for Moody through the years.

"My time in retirement has been quite an education and a journey of discovery. I have always been proud of my family and its fame in the marine industry, but the research I have done for this publication has focused on the extent to which a simple family with innate skills made such a mark in life.

I have not only learnt of my ancestors, but also the environment in which they lived. Their resourcefulness and will to succeed is impressive. My elderly relations and new friends I have met in the writing of this book, have been a real inspiration. I can admit to experiencing a rollercoaster of emotion at times!

The family has been responsible for adding to the world's assets and bringing the sport of sailing and boating to many thousands of people but I can also appreciate that we have used up many global resources in the form of timber, metals and oil. This has to be balanced by the benefits local families have enjoyed through the employment Moodys has provided over the decades. Some families have had employment with Moodys over several generations. This I feel, is something of which we should be justifiably proud.

I have discovered more about the actual river Hamble and can now appreciate just how special and important this corner of England is. The Moody family has been responsible for the changing face of a little village over the years. Whilst many would approve of the changes, some might not, but everything we did seemed necessary at the time to survive in an increasingly competitive world. Standing still was never an option, although your heart might try to tell you otherwise."
